De Nederlandse producer Nicolay komt terug met Foreign Exchange’s 3e studioalbum ‘Authenticity’. 12 Oktober 2010 ligt het album in de winkels!

“Authenticity” is the 3rd full-length from indie-soul duo The Foreign Exchange.

Picking up where their 2008 Grammy-nominated “Leave It All Behind” set left off, “Authenticity” is the group’s most diverse work to date, with a tight, 11-track song cycle spanning the duo’s trademark brand of lush electronic soul, to stripped down acoustic pieces that recall the heyday of 70’s singer-songwriter driven folk.

Lead single “Maybe She’ll Dream Of Me” is a playful, synth-driven hip-hop groove featuring a rapped verse from Phonte that evokes the band’s “Connected” era, while the epic opener “The Last Fall” finds Phonte singing some of his most cynical lyrics to date (“Love is at worst an excuse/at best it’s a truce…”) over a frenzied Nicolay production jammed with layers of strings, guitars, and dense choral harmonies.

“I think every band reaches that point when they come into their own and find a sound that is distinctively theirs,” says Phonte in reference to the album’s title. “The title refers to me and Nic’s journey to find our own unique space within this vast musical landscape. The biggest challenge as a musician is to find that ‘thing’ that makes you who you are. But I think we’re getting there, and we’re finding our way more and more with each record.”

Featuring guest appearances from longtime contributors YahZarah, Darien Brockington, Zo! and Median, and also relative newcomers Chantae Cann and Jesse Boykins III, “Authenticity” hits stores 10/12 on +FE Music

Aloë Blacc naar Paradiso!

CARHARTT PRESENTEERT ALOE BLACC LIVE CONCERT IN PARADISO

Woensdag 29 september 2009 presenteert Carhartt de Amerikaanse zanger, rapper en muzikant Aloe Blacc live concert in de Paradiso te Amsterdam.

Aloe Blacc speelt vanaf heel jonge leeftijd trompet en verscheen halverwege de jaren negentig in de muziekwereld als MC van de rapgroep Emanon. Zijn eerste soloalbum “Shine Through” werd in 2006 uitgebracht door Stones Throw Records en laat Blacc horen in een prachtige fusie van jazz, soul, r&b en hiphop. “Good Things” is de titel van zijn nieuwste album, dat in september van dit jaar verschijnt.

“Even if the music itself does not explicitly express anything that may signify positive social change, the product of the music will”, zegt Blacc over zijn nieuwe album.

De single “I Need A Dollar”, die eerder dit jaar al verscheen is een swingende en soulvolle belofte.

Inmiddels is de Kaartenverkoop van start gegaan en zijn verkrijgbaar via Ticket Service en alle bekende voorverkoopadressen.

Ntjam Rosie presenteert ‘Elle’!

De prachtige Ntjam Rosie heeft als zangeres en songwriter een enorme groei doorgemaakt sinds haar debuutalbum. Nu, twee jaar later, verrast ze met haar nieuwe album ELLE. Rosie heeft zich laten inspireren door onder meer Stevie Wonder, George Duke en Miriam Makeba. Het resultaat is een heerlijk jazzy album met pop- en soul-invloeden. Ntjam Rosie presenteert ELLE op 6 oktober in De Doelen in Rotterdam en op 11 oktober in Paradiso in Amsterdam.

Over ELLE
Het album ELLE is bijna geheel Engelstalig en alle teksten zijn door Rosie zelf geschreven. Ook de composities nam ze grotendeels voor eigen rekening. Op het album zijn de soul-, jazz- en Afrikaanse en Braziliaanse ritme-invloeden duidelijk hoorbaar. Voor de opnamen van ELLE wist Rosie internationale muzikanten als Nathan Allen (Amy Winehouse, Faith Evans) en Alex Bonfanti (Tom Jones, Xantone Blacq) te strikken. Ook de Nederlandse bijdrage is talentvol: onder meer Ronald Snijders en Roël Calister verleenden hun medewerking. Het album is analoog opgenomen, met “live band” ingespeeld, wat zorgt voor een warme sound. ELLE is geproduceerd door Nelson & Djosa.

Over Ntjam Rosie
Sinds de release van haar eerste album Atouba (2008) is de uit Kameroen afkomstige Ntjam Rosie in een stroomversnelling geraakt. Ze studeerde af aan het Codarts Conservatorium en won de MCN World Up Award. Ook mocht Rosie de Music Matters Award in ontvangst nemen, waardoor ze in staat werd gesteld ELLE te maken en Rosie een jaar lang muziekambassadeur voor Rotterdam is. Daarnaast verzorgde Ntjam Rosie het naprogramma voor Erykah Badu, het voorprogramma voor Jose James en speelde ze op festivals als Dunya, The Hague Jazz, North Sea Jazz Roundtown en Mundial.

Mark Ronson werkt aan album D’Angelo!

Nu beweert Mark Ronson dat hij samen met D’Angelo aan het nieuwe album van de (voormalig) soulster werkt. Lees hieronder het bericht:

Producer says D’Angelo has been working ‘nonstop’ on new music.

Mark Ronson might be the key to getting some of soul music’s notoriously reclusive artists back in the studio. In addition to a June session with Amy Winehouse for her contribution to a Quincy Jones tribute album, Ronson said he’s slated to work on new material with R&B artist D’Angelo.

The British producer told Billboard that he was “going into the studio … to work a bit on his record, and I have equal parts intimidation and awe and excitement.”

After releasing two acclaimed albums, 1995’s Brown Sugar and Voodoo in 2000, D’Angelo has, for the most part, vanished from the scene, only occasionally dropping vocals on projects like Q-Tip’s 2008 album The Renaissance and Raphael Saadiq’s 2002 Instant Vintage LP. The singer may have shied away from the limelight in recent years, but Ronson said he’s been staying busy. “I know he’s been working nonstop. It’s not like they’ve been sitting on their asses.”

Ronson also revealed that D’Angelo has been keeping up on music during his hiatus. The singer and multi-instrumentalist, who covered Smokey Robinson on his debut and boasts a repertoire that often references throwback R&B sounds, said he’s kept a pair of sonically retro albums in rotation.

“I was pretty much floored when D said that the only two records of the past five to six years that he really listened to a lot were St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley and [Amy Winehouse's] Back to Black,’ ” said Ronson, who crafted Winehouse’s 2007 hit album. “I was like, ‘I cannot believe I made something that this guy listened to over and over again and looked to for inspiration.’ “

Rapper/producer DNG (oudgediende van Coup deVillz) dropt naar aanloop van zijn debuut album de eerste single:oNe De single is vanaf vandaag te beluisteren en te dowloaden op DNG’s website www.dng-online.com. Nadat zijn voormalige rapcrew in 2009 de stekker eruit trok, heeft DNG in alle stilte gewerkt aan het afronden van zijn Engelstalig solo album (“Regardless”) dat vooralsnog in eigen beheer zal worden uitgebracht. Over een concrete releasedatum doet de rapper voorlopig geen uitspraken. Ook worden er tot die tijd geen mixtapes gedropped als zogenaamde zoethoudertjes. “Releasedata zijn net beroepsoplichters en verplaatsen zich nog te vaak snap je? En voor zoethoudertjes zeg ik: Jamin!”, aldus DNG. Dus tot nader order…oNe.
