QT interviewt J.Tait!

Vandaag een interview met nieuwkomer, J.Tait!
J. heeft recent zijn eerste clip ‘Just My Imagination’ uitgebracht en komt deze maand met de EP ‘Things In My Mind’.
J.Tait is al geruime tijd achtergrond zanger van Dwele, de man die ook zijn eerste clip regisseerde.
In een kort onderonsje willen we deze getalenteerde zanger aan jullie voorstellen onder het motto ‘Gimme The 5!’.

QT:
Please introduce yourself to the Dutch Audience!

J.TAIT:
My name is J. Tait. Been singing since I was about 6 or 7 years old. I was inspired by my big brother Will Tait, singing around the house. I grew up in the city of Detroit. Went to Detroit public school. High school and listening to music much older then i helped from me musically into what I’ve become today. In high school I jointed the choir in the 9th grade.
All our songs were sung in like an oprah stye, and in high school is where i first started performing in front of live audiences, it helped me with my fear of performing.

QT:
For what stand the J.?

J.TAIT:
The J. in my name stands for James. My mother named me after my grandfather.

QT:
What made you decide to step up/rise from background singer to become leadsinger yourself?

J.TAIT:
I’ve always been somewhat of a lead singer leading my high school choir in songs,also being in a 5 man singing group where i lead alot and i had a band in Detroit named “Illumination” where we performed at the local casino’s. Those gigs were pretty crazy cause we were performing 3 1/2 hours at a time. Was fun but at the same time i had 2 jobs.So i would start one job at 8am,bring my performing out fit with me,get refreshed in the restroom after work, then go to the casino perform 3 1/2 hours,then work my other job after that,didnt get done with that one til 2am sometimes, get a few hours of sleep and start the next day at 7am.lol,was crazy. Back to the starting topic, I still sing with Dwele (Grammy Nominee, Skecthes Of A Man – Album Out Now! Plug, lol)
It pays the bills, and until i get my project to the masses, it gives me to opertunity to learn the business and travel the world. Kinda like what Bilal and Tank does. Bilal has sung background for Common, and Tank has sung bground for Jammie Foxx yet they still release there own solo albums also.

QT:
Your first video is directed by Dwele. We did an interview with him a couple of months ago so we know he’s a humble & funny guy.
What’s it like touring with him? Do you have a funny anekdote?

J.TAIT:
I tell you, the world just don’t understand yet. That man is a genious! It’s one thing to be good at something, but that dude is good at everything!
I learn so much from him. He’s a great writer, engineer, film editer, film directer, artist (he draws, did the drawings on his “Sketches of a man” album), DJ, producer, and when I say great producer, i mean he plays keys, bass guitar, guitar, drums, trumpet (his younger brother antwann is the same way). I look at Dwele in the same way he looked at JDilla, looked at as being a genius, inspirational. If a recording artist needed a complete project done, he or she could come to Dwele for eall of what they need.
Need pic’s taken, go to Dwele.. need a track done, go to Dwele… need a song written/vocals cut, Dwele got it… need a video shot.. dwele …oh and you want to have a record
release party and you need a Dj..go to Dwele..lol.It’s crazy that he does all of those things,all they would get from me is a song,lol.And i would like
to add,he does all those things at high levels,and to have all those talents and be as humble as he is,it’s really amazing.
We had fun at my video shoot for “Just My Imagination”,that was my first video shoot ever.Was great to work with a veterian in the game.
As far as funny stories on the raod,there was this one time in band camp,lol.just playin.
When we were in Dallas Texas Dwele,mgn.Tim Maynor and LLoyd (Dwe’s other bground singer) offord me $60 american dollars to walk on water

Did you learn certain things from him?

J.TAIT:
Yeah, he taught me alot of editing tricks in the recording sofware Pro tools. And also listening to his music/band rehearsals have tault me alot about music itself. And it opened me up to listening to other things.I listen to Jazz more then i used to now. People have said they can hear a little inspiration from Dwele in a song I produced, titled:

Tell us more about your upcoming release ‘Things On My Mind’!

J.TAIT:
As of now the project has 5 songs on it. I wrote 4 of them and produced 2 “This song is for you” and the remake of “Just my imagination”. The other 3 were produced by 2 producers from Detroit. Tracks 1 and 4 were produced by Dj Sleepy Hollow of Final fantasy recordings, and track 2 was produced by Skenz of Drtybyname productions.
“This song is for you” is one of my fav.songs off the EP because of the subject matter and it’s 100 percent me. Now, I usually write all my songs, but this was the first song that i put out publicly where i sung,Wrote/arranged,produced,and mixed it all myself. So for a person to hear it and actually like it,it would bring a very pleasent feeling upon me.Not saying i don’t like help from others, i’m just saying it’s fulfilling to accomplish something on my own. The fella’s know what i mean by that. Like when your car has a problem and someone’s telling you to take it to the shop to get it fixed but instead,you fix the problem yourself, it makes you feel alot better. Or even for females,when you do your hair yourself,and people are like “yo,your hair looks great, where did you get your hair done at”? and you like, “oh girl,this hair right here,this right here? I did it” lol. Makes you feel good right?
Thats what i mean..I wrote this song totally for the ladies,and the dudes that want to play it for there ladies.
I LOOOOVE WOMEN! They are all soooo beautiful! They have good hearts. Life wouldn’t be worth living without the love of a women.
As far as the album as a hole, there’s alot of different feels on it. Something for everyone. Something for the concious hiphop head #1″Think it over”.
Something for the person who’s in love all by themselves #2 “think i’m in love” Something for the more current listener #5 “Just my imagination”.
I don’t want to be put into a box. I want to be able to write about what ever I feel. Marvin Gaye is a great representation of that. He could do a song like “whats going on” then a song like “lets get it on” and then a song like “god is my friend”. My goal with this Ep is to establish my sound.I want producers and my fans to listen to the radio and think,you know what? J. Tait would sound good on this song. It’s his type of joint. Or this sounds like something J. Tait would do.You know what i’m saying? I’m sure you’ve listened to a track someone made and thought,wow! Jay-Z would be perfect for this track, he would murder it. Thats what i’m trying to establish right now,that kind of sound,that type of presence.

QT:
What can we expect in the near future?

J.TAIT:
You can expect a full album with at least one if not more songs produced by Dwele, if everything works out the way i want it to. There might be a mix tape coming in the future also. I think there is alot of talent in detroit that the world as a hole isnt aware of, and i plan to put out something where everyone I love and respect as an artist is included.

What’s the last album you bought and concert you went to?

J.TAIT:
The last album i bought was a gospel album by J Moss Titled “Just James”.He is one of the best singers in the world.Buying Jay-Z’s album Blue print 3 next.
The last concert i went to was Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.They always turn the place out! The time before that it was a Beyonce’ concert.

QT:
One last question……..
How did you like Amsterdam?! Have you been able go around town?

J.TAIT:
One of the things i wonna do next time is ride the canal cruise.
Looks romantic, you gotta hook me up with a beautiful lady to ride with, lol.

Performing at Paradiso was nice.
I got a chance to see the Red Light District, Dam square, road the tram, saw the Canals and Leidsesquare/Leidsestraat.
Saw the History Statue (which some locals call it the dildo, lol) went to Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk,
the Palace at Dam Square.. I had a great experience in Amsterdam.. I loved every moment. Great people also.

Dru Hill’s Sisqo is onverwacht vader (04.08.09)
Auw…. Hij heeft het lang geheim kunnen houden maar Sisqo beland ook in het rijtje waar R.Kelly in staat. Sisqo moet alimentatie betalen aan een inmiddels 24-jaar oude dame die een kind van hem heeft van inmiddels 9 jaar. Terugrekenend betekent dat hij in 1999 het kind heeft verwekt. De zanger was toen 20 jaar. “After the concert Sisqo was [standing] with his band at the bar, we went over and talked to them,” vertelde de moeder die Zurich woont. “Then everything went very fast.” Een DNA-test heeft uitgewezen dat Sisqo de vader is.

Nederland zonder Pirate Bay (30.07.09)
De Zweedse downloadsite The Pirate Bay moet zijn website binnen tien dagen ontoegankelijk maken voor internetgebruikers in Nederland. Dat heeft de voorzieningenrechter bij de rechtbank in Amsterdam donderdag bepaald in een kort geding dat de auteursrechtenorganisatie Brein tegen de beheerders van de site had aangespannen. Voor iedere dag dat de gedaagden niet aan het vonnis voldoen moeten zij een dwangsom van 30.000 euro betalen tot een maximum van 3 miljoen euro. Volgens Brein schendt The Pirate Bay op grote schaal auteursrechten door miljoenen internetgebruikers in de gelegenheid te stellen gratis illegale film- en muziekbestanden te downloaden. De advocaat van de stichting stelde tijdens de behandeling van de zaak dat The Pirate Bay ongeveer twee miljoen films, muziekalbums, softwarepakketten en games aanbiedt zonder toestemming van de rechthebbenden. De beheerders van The Pirate Bay werden in april dit jaar door een Zweedse rechter al veroordeeld tot een jaar gevangenisstraf. De site bleef echter gewoon online. The Pirate Bay heeft aangegeven tegen de uitspraak in beroep te gaan.

RayRay beter bekend als Raphael Saadiq doet wederom ons land een bezoek aan.
Op 13 oktober staat deze ‘living legend’ net zoals vorig jaar weer in Paradiso te Amsterdam. De voorverkoop is 1 augustus 2009 gestart.
