Interview met Jesse Boykins III

Jesse Boykins III, inmiddels 22 jaar. Geboren in Chicago, op zijn 5e verhuisd naar Jamaica om 4 jaar later te blijven in Miami. Zijn debuutalbum is net uit, ‘The Beauty Created’, en zijn EP bracht hij uit op valentijnsdag 2008. Dat zijn zijn wapenfeiten. Genoeg om de scene te laten merken dat JBIII er is. QT:
Before we want to know all about your new album, we would like to know a little bit more about you as a person. When and where did your musical journey start?

JBIII:
I started writing and taking music seriously in about 8th grade.
I found myself singing all the solos in choir and getting good attention for it.

QT:
You dropped your EP “Dopamine: My Life On my Block’ early 2008, which stimulated the buzz around your person. Now you’ve dropped your debut-album.
Can you please tell us more about your new album, where did your inspiration for this album came from, who worked with you on this album: ‘The Beauty Created’ ?

JBIII:
Yea I released my Ep Dopamine valentines day of 2008. It took me about 9 months to do the new album TBC. I did most of the production with Steve Wyreman(band member and Guitar Player) and Marion Ross III (my production partner, and trumpet player in the band)the album is Inspired by my band also named The Beauty Created and I found some inspiration from Spike Lee Movies..

A question which I have to ask for the single females in the Netherlands
Are you seeing someone special?

JBIII:
Ha. At the moment I’m single and pretty focused

QT:
What is it you are looking for in a woman? I look for simplicity in a woman. I also like a driven women with goals. Some one more motivated that me. Inspiration

QT:
Do you agree with me that many artist their first album, most of the times is the most creative because of all the previous years they‘ve worked on their material?

JBIII:
Yeah that depends.. With me I have so much material.. Dopamine wasn’t even my first work..
I think I’m a true artist just for the fact that I have so many styles of music..
And I think my fans will like it all.

QT:
What’s your plan for your second full-length album (& 3rd release)?

JBIII:
My 3rd release is gonna be electronica meets soul meets folk..
More on that in a few.. I’m really in TBC mode I think its a classic album

QT:
Do you have discussed that with your recent label?
No pressure from them to release a second album a.s.a.p.?

JBIII:
Naw no pressure.. Its all up to me..
Painters don’t have gallery shows every 3 months,
they show there work when they think the work and people are ready for it..

QT:
Your music has a very mature soulful approach.
Can you see yourself do another type of song like guys as T-Pain etc., that typical urban sound?

JBIII:
I mean as an artist I have no idea what I will do next.. I might sing country if I’m in the mood.. I wouldn’t doubt myself doing mainstream music. I would need to use autotune though.. ha

QT:
What’s your connection with Bilal? (I’ve read you’ve studied together? Plz explain…)

JBIII:
Yeah Bilal was my voice trainer in college.. He taught me a lot about artistry and being true to yourself. Not letting the industry consume you. Very Passionate dude when it comes to recording, his work ethic is crazy. I think that’s where I learned from.

QT:
Who would you like to work with in the future and why?

JBIII:
I really want to work with The Neptunes, Kwame’, Kanye West, John Legend, Eric Roberson and there’s way more musicians and artist.. Would take a while to name them all

QT:
What’s your favourite artist en what is the last album you’ve bought?

JBIII:
My Favorite Artist varies depending on the phase I’m in. Like I’ll have a stevie wonder phase then a Marvin Gaye phase then a Donny Hathaway phase then a Beatles phase..u know?
The last album I bought was the Bilal album 1st born second

QT:
What can we expect in the near future?

JBIII:
Expext good timeless music, expect Jesse Boykins III’s brand to build within these next couple of months. I should also be in europe very very soon. So expect me to hit a stage near you.

QT:
